Driving Test Appointments in Alabama. You must have an AL drivers license appointment to take the hands-on driving portion of an Alabama drivers license exam. A behind the wheel test appointment is your opportunity to prove your driving skills and will include tasks such as backing up, proper use of turn signals and performing a three-point turn. The first test for every type of license includes a vision, knowledge, and road test, except for a moped license. The SCDMV does not require a skills test for a moped license. Taking the Road Test You may hear a road test called a skills test. You need to take a road test if you do not hold a valid driver’s license.
The Alabama DMV permit test will have 30 questions, and you’ll need to answer 24 of them to reach the 80% passing score. If you are preparing to take the knowledge test (written or computerized) to get either your Alabama learner’s license or driver’s license, make sure you bring the $5 fee with you to your license appointment. No checks are accepted. According to Alabama’s Graduated License Law, which took effect in 2002, anyone who is 15 years old can get a learner license. This type of license will help you learn to “safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle,” according to the 2020 Alabama Driver Manual. In order to get it you need to pass the Alabama DMV written test (also known as permit test). The format of our DMV practice test is just like the one you’ll take at the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Driver License Offices. This practice test has 40 multiple-choice questions, and you’ll need to answer 32 of them correctly, for an 80% passing score.

If you only study the official manual, your chances of passing the written knowledge test are only about 49 percent. The guide they give you at the DMV isn’t written to promote rapid learning. No matter how smart you are, it has a way to make you feel dumb: there are way too many things to remember all at once. How do you even know what you'll be tested on?
